Readers to Readers

by Peter Biľak

Works That Work is launching a new classified ad service to publicise our readers’ projects. You can reach an international creative audience at affordable rates and also nominate innovative businesses to be featured in WTW for free.

We started WTW as a magazine for our readers. That sounds simple, but it’s also radical when you consider that most newspapers and magazines published since the 1830s are advertiser-oriented, supported predominantly by advertising rather than sales, and their readerships are basically a commodity sold to advertisers.

We aim to minimise advertising in WTW, and it currently occupies less than 5% of our pages (in contrast to the industry average of 52%), but our circulation is not yet large enough to support our operation without ads. So the next best thing to publishing a magazine without advertising is to publish a magazine with advertising that is relevant and interesting to our readers.

Reader Classified Ads

Unsurprisingly, you WTW readers are creative people pursuing extremely diverse interests and working in a wide variety of fields, so now we are offering you an opportunity to present your projects through our classified ads. Have you written or published a book? Designed a font? Programmed an app? Produced an album? Launched a product? You can let a worldwide audience of like-minded people know about it. Whether you have an apartment for rent or an upcoming workshop or festival, you can announce it in WTW starting at €125, a price well within the reach of even small start-ups.

Nominate and Support Innovative Businesses

We’ll also be offering two free classified ads per issue to support our readers and their innovative business ideas. You can nominate your idea or a friend’s idea for exposure to your fellow readers in our wide, international creative community. Our editorial team will select two of the proposals and feature them in one large and one small classified ad. As criteria for selection, we'll be looking for surprising but viable business models that are socially conscious.
