Keep to the Right — London
There are many written and unwritten rules for using public transport. Public places are visually polluted with instructions, announcements and warnings all competing for attention, and the more signs there are, the easier they are to overlook or ignore. Yoni Alter’s proposal for the London underground is wonderfully intuitive, the painted feet gently reminding people not to block the escalators. Initially rejected on the grounds that the authorities would instead enhance the existing signage, Alter’s design is now being tested in a few selected stations.
