Crowds watching Paralympic Association football matches are absolutely silent, not from lack of enthusiasm, but to allow the game’s blind players to hear the tinkling of two large spherical bells inside the ball. Pioneered by Spain and Brazil in the first half of the 20th century, blind football is played worldwide and has been a Paralympic sport since 2004.
